Title: Measurement Validity and Validation in the Social and Health Sciences: A Meditation on Where We Have Come From and the State of the Art Today

Abstract: With strategic intent, this presentation meditates on the conceptual foundations of measurement validity through overview of the major views (outlooks) on the nature of validity itself and the process of validation. The presentation will begin with a brief glance at the history of measurement validity as a way of setting the stage for a discussion of what is today meant by validity and the process of validation in the social and health sciences. The ultimate aim is to provide some suggestions for future development in measurement and testing in the social and health sciences.
