Title: A Discussion of the Theory, Methods, and Controversies of Meta-Analysis

Abstract: This presentation will introduce the principles and practices meta-analysis, including the methods of identifying and coding qualifying studies, effect-size calculation and weighting, and finally effect-size synthesis. Throughout the discussion we will also highlight the controversies that surround the use of meta-analysis (e.g., fixed- vs. random-effects models, publication bias). Lastly, we will briefly outline software options and provide an example of conducting meta-analysis via the metafor package in R.
