Title: A whirlwind tour of Tableau data visualization software

Abstract: Tableau is a powerful software visualization suite for creating interactive visualizations quickly and easily.  Tableau was primarily developed as a business intelligence tool, but is rapidly gaining popularity amongst data journalists and scientists who want to share their findings in compelling ways.  The software can be useful for exploring data visually and creating rich "dashboards" that can be shared online.  Tableau also offers a free license to registered students.

In this talk I will introduce the Tableau software interface, give a brief primer on Tableau lingo useful to understand and manipulate the program, and demonstrate a little of what it can do in a hands-on session.  As well, I will demonstrate how I used Tableau to summarize some findings from a simulation study.  We will end with group discussion on potential uses of interactive visualizations in Psychology research.
